Chess Club
"AXÉ" for our kids: Improving academic performance and promoting social behavior through chess
Known as “Associação de Xadrez da Etiv - AXÉ” (Etiv Chess Association), the chess club was founded to bring students together and, at the same time, help them improve: their academic achievements, such as in mathematics; strategic and analytical thinking; cognitive and social skills; as well as promoting civic behavior and affective attributes. Thus, contributing to reduce inequalities and promote social justice.
The word AXÉ comes from the Yoruba language and means power, energy or force present in every being or thing. The acronym that gives our Chess Club its name refers to this word, which is so widely used in Bahian culture as a result of the cultural heritage of the enslaved Africans brought to Bahia.
